Primary School Scholarships
Since 2012 the Ariel Rosado Foundation has supported The Belize Sailing Association by providing funding for under privileged Belize City youths to learn to sail. For the first three years the Foundation sponsored students from St. Luke's Primary School and St. John's Primary School to learn to sail under the guidance of the Belize Sailing Association. These grants covered the cost of one year's membership fee in the Belize Sailing Association and include 25 sailing lessons for each of five students per school per year. The Foundation provided life jackets for participants while enrolled in the program.
In 2014 the Foundation decided to provide an annual grant directly to the Belize City Sailing Club to provide opportunities for under privileged primary school students to learn to sail under the guidance of the Belize City Sailing Club and to participate in Sailing Regattas held across the country.
The requirements for the award of these grants are as follows:
- Schools must:
- provide adult supervision for students participating in sailing activities – students will not be allowed to participate if adequate adult supervision is not available
- ensure regular attendance of participants in Saturday sailing sessions - students who miss three training sessions without good reason will be excluded from the program
- arrange transportation for students to and from the training sessions
Interested schools can contact the Belize City Sailing Club.
